Old Rectory
A magnificent early Victorian Rectory in a uniquely beautiful and quiet position beside the Salcombe estuary; this property is undoubtedly the best house along the East Portlemouth shoreline and one of the finest in the South Hams.The Old Rectory is set in over three acres (six including tidal foreshore) of beautifully landscaped gardens with a wide variety of plants, shrubs and trees with extensive lawns, including a croquet lawn, sweeping down to South Pool Creek. A stream, including a number of water features, runs through the gardens to an ornamental pond beside the Creek. The house has a frontage of some 275 metres to the estuary and includes a boathouse and slipway and fixed mooring. The property is furnished with style in keeping with its architecture, has spacious rooms incorporating window shutters, wide sash windows, moulded ceiling decoration and original fireplaces. There are wonderful water and rural views from the garden and most rooms, up the Creek towards South Pool, down to the Salcombe anchorage and across to Scoble and Snapes Points. The Salcombe and Kingsbridge estuary stretches several miles in both directions with pretty, sandy beaches, boating, fishing and wildlife. The town of Salcombe is approximately one mile distant by boat.

(The grounds have, in past years, been open to the public under the English Garden Scheme and have also been the venue for operas performed by The Garden Opera Company)
