Accommodation
The conventional beds in a property will comfortably accommodate the number of people stated (except where two figures are shown ie 14/18+ sofa beds and/or z beds are provided and/or other facilities, such as sitting and dining room seating, might not comfortably accommodate more than the lower number) but due to space constraints there may not always be sufficient seating in one room for the whole party.
Gas, Electricity and Oil are included in the rental price with no additional charge unless stated.
Beds/Bed Linen/Towels
All bed sizes are standard (4'6" double and 3' single) unless otherwise stated. Pillows and duvets are provided. Linen is not provided unless otherwise stated and tenants must therefore provide bottom sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases, towels, tea towels and bath mats. Linen hire services are available - please refer to pages 127 in the brochure. Booking forms will be sent to tenants with final confirmation of booking.
Cots & Highchairs
Cots and highchairs can be hired where they are not provided at the property(see pages 127). If they are provided please warn SHH that you will be using them, so that we can ensure they are accessible.
Pets
PETS ARE ONLY ACCEPTED WHERE CLEARLY STATED IN THE PROPERTY DETAILS - please bring bedding, bowls etc, and do not allow your pets in the bedrooms or on any furniture. Pets must not be left unaccompanied in any property and must be kept under control at all times.Tenant's pets/visiting pets are not allowed either in the premises of 'Non Pet' properties or across the boundary of the property. This restriction is often due to allergy related problems and must be strictly adhered to.
Mobile Phones
Mobile phones do not always work in Salcombe although most mobile phones appear to work in the majority of areas apart from North Sands.
Driving in Salcombe Visitors should be aware that part of the character of Salcombe is some narrow roads, particularly towards North and South Sands, where passing is often very difficult. In addition, the Devon lanes can be very narrow (single track with passing places on occasion) and winding, with high road sides covered with vegetation. From March to June this is largely a wonderful display of primroses, snowdrops, bluebells, campions, foxgloves and cow parsley!
Parking
Where available, is stated in property details. Street parking is sometimes possible outside the town centre but this often causes problems for local residents. Tenants are encouraged to use the Park and Ride which is open during the holiday season and operates frequent hopper buses to the centre of town. Long stay car parking is available at Shadycombe Road from October - April and at the Creek Car Park, Gould Road from May - September. Weekly tickets (approx £28.00 p.w.) are available at the SHH office, Salcombe Information Centre or at the Newsagents, but a space is not guaranteed (usually available before 10am and after 4.00pm).
Car Park Season Tickets
Some property owners provide car park season tickets which allow a vehicle to park at no cost to the visitor. These do not guarantee a parking space but do enable long term parking significantly cheaper than short term rates. The season tickets are not replaceable and thus, if lost, future tenants will not have this benefit. If tenants wish to use the season ticket this can be collected from the office in exchange for a refundable deposit of £30.
Cleaning
With regret, because of the high number of letting properties in Salcombe, and restricted number of cleaners all properties must be cleaned by tenants prior to departure. If you require any help during your stay we can arrange cleaning for you (at an additional charge).
Character Properties Many of the properties within this brochure are older cottages dating back to the last century or earlier. It is important to remember before booking your holiday in one of these properties that part of the charm of such properties are the characteristically low ceilings doorways and beams. They often have steep narrow stairs and because of low or sloping ceilings, may have limited clothes hanging facilities. Many were also built before the introduction of damp proof courses and cavity insulation.
These points are particularly important to note if your party has any elderly or very young members. Thatched rooves and beams can attract spiders and cobwebs reappear very quickly after being removed. We feel having made these points, however, that these are all aspects of such properties that add charm and character and would not hesitate to recommend them if these features are understood. If you are unsure, please ask.
