Helpful Information

The conventional beds in a property will comfortably accommodate the number of people stated (except where two figures are shown i.e. 14/18 where sofa beds and/or z beds may be provided). Other facilities, such as sitting and dining room seating, might not comfortably accommodate more than the lower number and due to space constraints there may not always be sufficient seating in one room for the whole party.

Beds/Bed Linen/Towels

All bed sizes are standard (4’6” double and 3’ single) unless otherwise stated. Pillows and duvets are provided. Linen and towels are provided unless otherwise stated. Linen for extra beds, sofabeds, storabeds is not provided unless requested 2 weeks prior to arrival. Please inform the office for any further linen requirements.

Character Properties

Many of the properties are older cottages dating back to the last century or earlier. It is important to remember before booking your holiday in one of these properties that part of the charm of such properties are the characteristically low ceilings doorways and beams. They often have steep narrow stairs and because of low or sloping ceilings, may have limited clothes hanging facilities. Many were also built before the introduction of damp proof courses and cavity insulation. These points are particularly important to note if your party has any elderly or very young members. Thatched roofs and beams can attract spiders and cobwebs reappear very quickly after being removed. We feel having made these points, however, that these are all aspects that add charm and character.

With regret, because of the high number of letting properties in Salcombe, and restricted number of cleaners all properties must be cleaned by guests prior to departure. If you require any help during your stay we can arrange cleaning for you (at an additional charge).

Cots & Highchairs

Cots and highchairs can be hired where they are not provided at the property. Please call for details. If they are provided please advise Salcombe Holiday Homes that you will be using them, so that we can ensure they are accessible.

Driving in Salcombe

Visitors should be aware that part of the character of Salcombe is some narrow roads, particularly towards North and South Sands, where passing is often very difficult. In addition, the Devon lanes can be very narrow (single track with passing places on occasion) and winding, with high road sides covered with vegetation.

Weather and tide permitting these operate:

  • Salcombe/East Portlemouth – Throughout the year.
  • Salcombe/South Sands – Beginning April to end October.
  • Salcombe/Kingsbridge – Mid May to end September.

Gas, Electricity and Oil

Included in the rental price with no additional charge unless stated.

Local Services

Include linen/cot hire, catering, sailing/windsurfing tuition and boat hire. Please call for details.

Mobile Phones

Please be aware that the mobile telephone reception in the area can be poor.

Where available, is stated in property details. Street parking is sometimes possible outside the town centre but this often causes problems for local residents. Guests are encouraged to use the Park and Ride which is open during the holiday season and operates frequent hopper buses to the centre of town. Long stay car parking is available at Shadycombe Road from October – April and at the Creek Car Park, Gould Road from May – September. Weekly tickets are sold at the Salcombe Holiday Homes office, Salcombe Information Centre or at the Newsagents. Some property owners provide car park season tickets which allow a vehicle to park (deposit payable). Neither ticket nor pass guarantee a parking space.

PETS ARE ONLY ACCEPTED WHERE CLEARLY STATED IN THE PROPERTY DETAILS (charges apply, see individual property details for information) – please bring bedding, bowls etc, and do not allow your pets in the bedrooms or on any furniture. Pets must not be left unaccompanied in any property and must be kept under control at all times. Guest’s pets/visiting pets are not allowed in the premises of ‘Non Pet’ properties nor across the boundary of the property. This restriction is often due to allergy related problems and must be strictly adhered to.

Smoking is not permitted in any property and we appreciate your cooperation in accordance with this, thank you.
